Surprising how popular the professional cameras are on Flickr.
How is the GPS Data saved? In a proprietary format or can the tool be used with other cameras as well (if the timestamps are synced....)
see the other two blog entries i wrote about the device. it's nmea data and it's basically accessible as a 32mb usb-stick.
so a brief answer: it'll work with any camera or for other purposes just as well. i could imagine that the original sony software might check for images being shot with sony cams (and otherwise refuses to work), but since i don't use windows nor really tried the original software, i can't tell. plus there are plenty of other free tols available. cheers, muesli
I saw someone else's review in which they claimed that it didn't mount on OS X ... have you successfully gotten it to mount on OS X, or are you trying it on Linux?
I really want one of these, but only if I know it'll mount on my Mac...
actually, no I didn't try it on the mac yet. but there is no logical reason why it shouldn't work: the device is a normal USB stick which can be mounted as a FAT device. it will work on os x.
cheers, chris
sorry, don't know what you're doing wrong, but i just tried it now and it does work just fine. mac-friend of mine got it running on his macbook as well.
see: http://jannis.to/daily/archives/733-Batch-convert-many-files-with-gpsbabel.html cheers, chris
I'm another Mac user who can't see the device. Have any of those who've managed to get the GPS-CS1 to work with a Mac done anything special to set it up, or are they running any special software?
Thanks, Stephen
No luck with mountig the GPS-CS1 on my iMac too...
Anyone who can help?
I just bought a Sony GPS-CS1 yesterday and here are my first impressions:
The unit is very easy to start using. The Software installed easily (just the GPS Image Tracker, not the Picture Motion Browser as I do not own a Sony camera). For those of you who do not own a Sony camera and wonder whether the devise will help you geotag your pictures taken with other cameras, I can confirm that it does. I took a few photos last evening and this morning with my cellphone-camera. Then the photos were loaded on my PC, and the GPS Image Ttracker software happily tagged all photos. But, I am so far not impressed with the accuracy. Five out of six photos were tagged more than ten meters off. As I walked through a city I did not neccessarily expect total accuracy, but one photo was more than 150 meters off (more than 500 feet). I will try this out more in the coming days. Also, it looks as if Sony has chosen a non-industry-standard format for the logfile. Atleast that is what it looks to me, who is not an expert in GPS logfiles. Here is an example: @Sonygps/ver1.0/wgs-84 $GPGGA,162537,5954.7671,N,01044.4491,E,1,03,03.4,00000.0,M,039.7,M,,*4C $GPGSA,A,2,03,14,22,,,,,,,,,,03.6,03.4,01.0*06 $GPGSV,1,1,04,09,06,040,00,14,26,122,39,22,53,077,38,03,37,164,40*71 $GPRMC,162537,A,5954.7671,N,01044.4491,E,000.2,000.0,181206,,,A*79 $GPVTG,000.0,T,,M,000.2,N,000.5,K,A*0A $GPGGA,162552,5954.7690,N,01044.4458,E,1,03,03.4,00000.0,M,039.7,M,,*45 $GPGSA,A,2,03,14,22,,,,,,,,,,03.6,03.4,00.9*0E $GPGSV,2,1,05,03,37,164,41,09,06,040,00,14,26,122,40,22,53,077,37*73 $GPGSV,2,2,05,28,24,317,00,,,,,,,,,,,,*45 $GPRMC,162552,A,5954.7690,N,01044.4458,E,000.0,000.0,181206,,,A*72
Speaking about "geotagging": do you know locr?
locr offers the ideal solution and makes geotagging exceptionally easy. Using a datalog GPS receiver like the Sony GPS-CS1 in additon to your digital camera, the GPS receiver data and the digital camera data can automatically be linked together by the locr software. With locr you can upload pictures with GPS information in them without any further settings. In the standard view, locr shows the photo itself, plus the place it was taken on GoogleMaps in map, aerial, and satellite shots. In addition, an overview of other photos from the proximity of the place it was taken which have been uploaded onto the site, and the postal address, key words, and comments are displayed. If you want to know more about the place where the photo was taken, just have at look at the Wikipedia articles which are also automatically assigned to the picture. Have a look at www.locr.com.
I’m not using locr for Geotagged albums…
I found this site http://www.trekinu.com much easy to share my albums. It is very easy to use tool I like the idea and in 5 simple steps you have something to send to your friends or share in your site. You can check this trek for example: http://www.trekinu.com/viewtrek.aspx?trkid=8h5b5glzsxa1h43 Add Comment

Like µsli I bought the Sony GPS-C1 GPS receiver the other day. It's a little device that tracks your current position every 15 seconds. You can then copy this data to your PC and have all your fotos geotagged. What does that mean? The exact geographical
