In a
message on the halflife2.net forum, Gabe Newell confirmed, that the Half-Life 2 source code was stolen from their servers and got released on the net. As you can imagine, he's really disappointed now, and he begs the users to help tracking this issue down.
Anyways: I'm pretty sure that Half-Life gets one of the greatest games ever. It's graphics and interaction just sets new standards for the genre. Buy this one!
On the other hand, it would be just too thrilling to see the sourcecode of
this game. Not for stealing it or anything like that: Just for the plain fun of reading it!
Maybe Valve is
really cool, trying to get the best out of the situation: Make it Opensource! I'm quite sure there's not the whole stuff out there to re-compile the whole game (think of all the game data and so on), besides that: No-one would try to compile and sell it afterwards. No-one could be that dumb.
So, just think of all the great opensource extensions to this game... People helping you fixing bugs for free, and still everybody agrees with the fact, that you're selling and getting money for this product, since you did most of the work, the design, the graphics, the marketing, and so on and on an on
Valve, I'd like to thank you for this game, no matter how you're going to handle this tough situation!
